Biden Administration Bans Incandescent Light Bulbs Amidst Backlash From The Public

Headlines:

  • The Biden Administration has banned the use of all forms of pre-existing incandescent LED lights in households from 1st August.
  • From now on, brighter and more energy-efficient light bulbs will be sold by retailers.
  • Homeowners that already have the previous type of light bulbs can continue using them.

The Biden administration has recently imposed a new rule regarding the use of incandescent light bulbs. The administration has banned the use of incandescent light bulbs, which will now be faced out in favor of more energy-efficient bulbs.

The move to such new bulbs was first started long ago by the Bush Administration. During his tenure, the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 promoted the development of light bulbs that have 25% greater efficiency. However, the act did not ban the use of incandescent bulbs.

Next, former President Barack Obama also added two new changes to the Act, which demanded that all incandescent bulbs and special candle-shape bulbs for chandeliers be phased out by January 2020.

However, previous President Donald Trump and his administration considered these new energy-efficient bulbs “made him look orange” and advocated against their use. Therefore, the Department of Energy had to block these regulations.

The Biden Administration has finally put these new policies into effect from 1st August 2023. Retailers are now advised to stop selling all older incandescent bulbs and instead sell the newer energy-efficient bulbs that provide a brightness of 45 lumens per watt – instead of the average of 15 lumens per watt.

The administration has also stated that these new lights will last 25 times longer than incandescent bulbs, along with sauvignon 75% more energy. While retailers are banned from selling incandescent bulbs, homeowners who already have incandescent bulbs (approximately 30% of the population) can still continue using them. However, they can only buy the new bulbs from now on.

However, the public believes that they are being “forced” to change the type of lights they can use. Plus, many believe that this is a “Regulatory Assault” made by the Biden Administration.
