Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Remake Introduces “Open Combat Missions” As A Breath Of Fresh Air

Headlines:

  • Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 remake introduces “open combat missions” as a new type of mission interwoven seamlessly with the main campaign.
  • These missions will have quite a few non-linear objectives that players can complete in any order and in any way.
  • The devs have explained that they want players to tackle these missions in their own way, providing options for both stealthy and all-guns-blazing playstyles.

We all know that a new Call of Duty (and FIFA and Assassins Creed) will come out every year (the latter not so much lately).

Since 2018, we have been getting complete remakes of the older Call of Duty titles like Modern Warfare being remade for the newer generation. While last year we got the fantastic Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 remake (with a not-so-fantastic multiplayer mode), this year, we will be getting the highly anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 remake that we all knew was coming sooner or later.

However, with the announcements being made a few days ago, it seems that devs are keen on delivering us the quintessential Call of Duty experience with a few gameplay innovations and tweaks. This time, we will be getting “open combat missions” (or OCM) as a new type of mission interwoven seamlessly with the main campaign.

These missions will be part of the main campaign but will have a more non-linear nature. These are objectives that you can complete in any way you want. You won’t be forced to follow a linear path with a forced play style. Want to be stealthy and sneak around slitting throats? Sure! Want to be a human T-800? You can do that as well!

Here’s what the devs have said so far regarding the new OCMs:

For example, if you prefer to use stealth techniques, you may wish to undertake an OCM with a lights-out approach, using night-vision goggles and suppressed weapons and complete your objectives without your adversaries knowing you were even there. However, if loud explosions and reckless abandon are part of your repertoire, strap extra armor plates onto your torso and hit those targets head-on.
